Culture House DC is pleased to present Legally Blindish: Paintings + Translations, an intimate exhibition by Briget Heidmous. The exhibition features two paintings and their one-of-a-kind soundscape Translations. Heidmous explores location, space, and place, inviting viewers to engage with the illusory scale of worlds in multiple stages of construction and deconstruction. Sound artists Magnus Andretti and Bruce Copening collaborate with Heidmous, interpreting visual works into sound translations.

The exhibit reflects on the U.S. definition of “legally blind,” discussing the gap between vision care and healthcare, and Heidmous’ own experiences with early vision decline. Her artistic practice combines painting and sound-based Translations to provide a multi-sensory experience.

Finding clothes that are flattering, interesting and celebratory of larger bodies has always been a struggle for plus-size people. Over the past nine months, Plush DMV has hosted three clothing swaps (one per season) where D.C. locals have the opportunity to audit their closets, share their wares and go home with new treasures. Those browsing can find clothing up to size 5X and beyond. We asked swappers their thoughts on plus-size clothing trends, misconceptions and what inspires their own personal style. This annual artist-driven fundraiser is bigger than ever. Pyramid’s gallery will be packed with over 300 pieces of original artwork donated by nearly 200 local and national artists who love the nonprofit art center.

Presented by the collective DC Dada Art and on view through March 28, Acts of Resistance through Absurd Resilience features over 20 artists in the gallery, as well as over 15 performance art and burlesque acts in a virtual showcase. This exhibition is a reaction to watching moderates get woke then just as quickly fall back into the sleep of complacency.

Briget Heidmous began the 2017 holiday season by selling all of her belongings, devoting herself to minimalist living and purchasing a one-way ticket west.

Working alongside Bridget Heidmous of the I.D.E.A. Space, seniors Abby Portman and Kristi Murray have curated IntellectuAle Adventure on the art of craft brewing, now on display in Coburn Gallery in the Worner Center. Bridging the gaps that often emerge between advertising and fine art, these two students isolated and exposed the meticulous care, detail, and artistic integrity that come with local craft brewing.

IntellectuALE Adventure was a collaboratively curated exhibition about design in the small brewing industry.

“I wanted to explore color relationships through a powerful contemporary medium with a rich history of color,” Heidmous says. For me, glass stood out.”

The exhibition, consisting of a series of showings and events across campus, and – as Heidmous says, “offers a visual art experience that serves as a platform to generate conversation surrounding issues of mass imprisonment, reform, and the human experience.”
